NOTE If you’re uncomfortable with pictures of men modeling underwear, just buy these boxer-briefs, and get the heck out of here. Don’t say I never did anything for you!
Should we even be talking about this? You’ve got a drawer full of it. If you’re like me, you have been given plenty of boxers and packs of underwear at Christmas, and a lot of it is pretty hilarious; The Simpsons, Shrek, Spiderman – I’ve owned them all. But, have you ever stopped to think about why you wear underwear?
Guys wear underwear for two main reason:
– Coverage: It’s a harsh world
– Support: Don’t leave me hanging
So, what underwear covers and supports best? Let’s take a look…
Cover like a king. Boxers offer far and away the best coverage of any type of underwear. Big and flowy; you probably got into these sometime in middle school when you started “changing” because you were told that they were what real men wore. Of course, as you’ve gotten older, you’ve realized that while they cover more than some swim trunks (if you can keep the fly closed) they really lack in one key area; their support sucks.
Briefs hit the opposite side of the spectrum. They support like crazy, but anything with less coverage is more appropriate for Chippendale’s than daily life. Brief get an unfortunately bad rap as kid coverage and embarrassing middle-aged dad underwear. Briefs are best worn in situations where you move a lot, like playing basketball, doing yoga or running full speed from a charging grizzly. If I had to choose between boxers and briefs, I’d wear briefs every time.
Fortunately, you don’t have to choose. There is a better way.
The boxer-brief / trunk, is God’s gift to men everywhere. I found these in high school, and I haven’t looked back since…
- Coverage from hip to thigh
- Boxer-briefs keep you fully covered, protect you from the harsh realities of denim, and protect your expensive wool trousers from you.
- Support yourself without the wedgie
- Boxer-briefs stay tight, but won’t ride up because the material extends down your leg. Never worry about the bungee effect again
The perfect combination of coverage and support, boxer-briefs are what I wear and recommend. Here are a few of my favorites:
