Today is the first day of spring. I know – I didn’t realize this either! Green grass, barbecues (or braais), and beach trips await… You need to get ready! Here are a few items to get your summer style in shape.
Colorful Shorts ($19.99 – $64.50)
Yeah, they’re a little preppy. So what?! Spring and summer are the perfect time to get colorful. Nature is doing it, so should you. Even earth is peer pressuring you…
A lightweight Chambray Shirt ($69.50)
Chambray has been hot, and that’s not going to stop now. But, you’re going to want to get a lightweight version so it doesn’t weigh you down this summer.
No elastic! Never elastic. Elastic is the devil; it synches your waist in and accentuates any fat on your midsection. Get something like this with a flat waist, and get it in a length that doesn’t say, “I’m a surfer, Dude.”
Don’t wear a heavy leather belt with linen pants. Lighterweight closed need lighterwieght belts. Mix it up and add some color. If you’re a bigger guy, keep the colors subtle; bright colors will attract attention to your waist.
White Linen Pants ($69.50)
These are elastic, which is usually a no-no, but I’ve owned these for over a year and love them. Plus, I usually wear a flowy untucked shirt to cover the waistband. They sit well; are breathable; and more importantly, they are thick enough to prevent “see through” issues. Wear them with confidence; as my cousins say, “You look like you own a yacht.”
Quality Sunglasses ($88.59)
For years I bought cheap sunglasses. $5-$20 at target, or a free pair with a company logo on the side. Two years ago a friend convinced me to invest in a nicer brand, and I haven’t looked back. They are lightweight, and much clearer than the cheap ones. I’ve had to stop loaning them to my friends because they don’t want to give them back.
Color block tee ($24.50)
Color blocking is big. This tee also draws attention toward your chest and away from your belly. It’s perfect for when you aren’t quite back in shape for summer…yet.
A New Watch Band ($11.95)
Cool off and liven up with some color on your wrist. Leather is great for winter and metal is a good all around option, but nylon will breathe easily and dry quickly.
tablecloth gingham shirt ($34.50)
I love these shirts. They have been popular for years, and have recently have made their way to sports casters everywhere. Don’t let that deter you; they look great. Pair with a solid (not patterned) pair of shorts and, if you’re going on a picnic this summer, bring a solid blanket.
Leather Sandals ($54.95)
Most rainbows are ethereal… these last forever. Okay, forever is an overstatement, but they last me for 3–4 years, easy. They look great, but remember, these are casual shoes; please don’t wander into a dinner with them.
Sorry, Jon Snow…erm, Kit Harington, but if there is one thing I know, it’s that winter is leaving. If you’ve been growing out your mountain look all winter, it’s time to cut back. Try the stubble look. And don’t be afraid to trim your hair back too; your scalp will thank you.
EXTRA INDULGENCE: A new watch ($340.00)
p>I have a weakness for watches. If you’re anything like me, a change of seasons is the perfect excuse to add to the collection. This one from Orient Watch USA is beautiful. The colors are bold and the white face looks great in summer. If you want to go white-face, but don’t want to break the bank, get this Timex and you won’t have to worry about messing it up.
- Timex Weekender ($41.99)
That’s all I have for now.
- What did I leave off?
- What are you picking up this summer?
- What can’t you wait for this summer?
Put it in the comments!
